This Is What I Know...

Finally, an update, woohoo! My next post will be my 100th, I'm gonna have to think of something good to make it fabulous! It has been a pretty good first week of summer! I've been running around taking kids to appointments, working out, swimming, and even having a sleepover for Turkey Butt. Once again, I stop and think about how blessed I am to work in a profession that allows me to have this time to relax, regroup, and enjoy my family!
We've really been struggling with Sweet Pea and her respiratory issues. I've been fretting over the fact that she will no longer be in a home for care next year, instead, she'll join 20 something other children in a true daycare situation. Since December, I don't think that my baby girl has been 100% well. She chronically has a cough or congestion or drainage. I know my pediatrician is tired of me bugging them, but I figure that's what I pay them for. Finally, we got a referral to a pulmonologist and we were fortunate enough to get in for an appointment this week. It was a very thorough visit. After hearing our story and what we've been dealing with, we have a diagnosis of RAD (reactive airway disease). The doctor also told us that she has the symptoms of an asthmatic. However, toddlers are rarely diagnosed with asthma because 50% of them outgrow their symptoms by age 4. SOOOOOO, we are hopeful, but also concerned. Right now, we are treating her for an ongoing sinus infection. This means 14 days of antibiotics twice a day, Allegra twice a day, 2 breathing treatment medicines three times a day, a nasal spray and saline spray twice a day. The doctor is hoping this will get her completely well and then we can figure out how to keep her well. We return for a visit in early July and I am praying that she will be free from cough and drainage and discomfort. It's been so hard for me to just watch her get sicker and sicker. I call and call the pediatrician's office, but they don't really offer much help as her only symptom has been a chronic cough... Back in the day, when Turkey Butt was little, if something was interfering with his sleeping or eating, we would get a prescription to help him. Gone are those days! I've considered switching doctors for some time and I just keep putting it off...I'm hesitant about starting all over!
So, on to life....my baby is two, my big boy is almost 7! We have baseball camp next week and VBS the following week! After that, we'll head up to the panhandle for the fourth and some family time. We don't have any big plans this summer and that's OK with me! We have Six Flags tickets and we are planning on doing some of the local things around here (not like there's a shortage of things to do!).
Here's the point, I know I am blessed and so very fortunate! Sometimes, I need to be reminded of these things. I thank God daily for all he has provided for me, he is truly good! Now, I am off to put one of these crazy kids to bed and bathe the other one (he hasn't bathed since Monday, such is summer!!).
Happy Summer Y'all!
