It's a Sad Day When.....

It's a sad day when the state of the economy is such that we are forced to face further cuts in education. I know this gets ranted and raved about all the time, but it's a world with it's priorities clearly in the wrong place that pays athletes salaries only to have young impressionable children see them screw up their lives with drugs, alcohol, or some other addiction.

Today at work, we looked long and hard about where we are. Teachers are willing to take pay cuts in order to keep the class size cap at 22 and to hold on to the jobs of other teachers. The state wants to raise the class size to 26.....wow....that's going to be effective. Truth of the matter is, cutting education will affect our children for an eternity. We already struggle as we're compared to other nations that achieve 'academic excellence'. So why not cut the budget...that will be effective in our quest to compete... The children who are already at risk will be most affected by these cuts. Students who consider dropping out, will no long have programs available to them that help prepare them for the real world, to teach them life skills and help them be successful contributors to our society....And so the cycle continues.....

Really, I'm frustrated as a parent and a teacher....fortunately, I work in a district that is trying to take care of us. I realize not everyone can be saved, but they are vowing to save as many as they can. Think about the officials in office. Do they really have a clue? Probably not. Remind them of their obligations and their promises to their supporters. Hold them accountable. It will be a sad day in Texas when education takes a back seat in the budget crisis. Just my two cents....I'm done now.....
